Things To Do

Things to Do in Myrtle Beach
By Paul T. Harris

If you ever have a chance to get down to Myrtle Beach SC, you'll always find something to do. Here are some really great ideas...

1) Freestyle Music Park- Freestyle is formerly the Hard Rock Park. Hard Rock went out of business a year ago and new investors took the park over. With new ownership, quite a few changes were made, including more rides for the kids. If you watch for specials during the summer, you can sometimes get some "2 for 1" deals, as well as super cheap discounted rates. For the money, Freestyle is hard to beat.

2) Golf- Myrtle Beach is known as the golf capital of the world, and for good measure. Over 100 golf courses are located along the Grand Strand. One inparticular is Myrtle Beach National Golf Course. It features 3 different 18 hole courses...well worth the trip.

3) Miniature Golf- if you're looking for miniature golf in myrtle Beach and accidently drive past a location, just keep driving another block or two and you'll probably find another! They are everywhere!

3) The beach- as if this even had to be said!

4) Alligator Adventure- If big Crocs and Alligators is your thing, don't miss Alligator Adventure. They feature UTAN, the king of all crocs. You won't believe how big this guy is! Things get crazy during feeding time! Also, lots of lizards, snakes, and tropical birds are on exhibit.

5) Ripley's Aquarium - Sleep with the sharks and swim with the stingrays. All sorts of marine fun can be found at Ripleys, over at Broadway at the Beach.

6) Broadway At The Beach - A constant favorite for all Myrtle Beach travelers. Lots of great shops, restaurants, clubs, and other activities. Ripleys, Hard Rock Cafe, and the Imax theater are all located at Broadway at the Beach.

Huntington Beach State Park

Huntington Beach State Park
By Bobby Simpson

Huntington Beach State Park is a wonderful Grand Strand destination that only has one thing missing. The crowds you will find in Myrtle Beach. If your happy to leave that behind and are up for a little adventure when you visit the Grand Strand, you should check out this great park. Here I will lay out some of the details of what you can expect to find at this park so you can think about planning a visit.

Access The park is located off of state highway 17, south of Myrtle Beach and not far from Georgetown, South Carolina. There is a per person entry fee ($5 adults, $3 children) and a $1 fee for being able to walk through Ayatala.

Camping There is a large campground with over 100 campsites. You can find a spot for everything from your tent to your large RV. There is all of what you would expect in a modern campground: electric and water at your site, hot showers and bathrooms in a few central locations. Sites are less than $30 a night (with tax). The campground is just on behind the beachfront dunes so you can walk to the beach and be at the ocean's edge by walking for just a few minutes.

Atalaya The park is named after the Huntington's, a married couple that originally owned the property that Huntington Beach State Park occupies. The property was purchased in 1930 and they quickly built an interesting home just off of the beach. This served as their winter home, when the Huntington's would come from New York to pass their time quietly in the warmer climes of South Carolina. Today the home is an interesting curiosity that you can visit and walk through when you visit the state park.

The Beach The Grand Strand beach is just as beautiful at Huntington Beach as it is in Myrtle Beach. There is a large parking lot at the main beach access point to the beach. You will also find a large building next to the beach that provides a place to change, bathrooms and a place to buy some cold drinks and snacks.

Wildlife Viewing The park has a reputation as one of the east coast's premier birding locations. There are a variety of habitats within the park and plenty of places to see some of the animals that use and live in each type. Different viewing platforms you can visit overlook a large salt marsh, a freshwater pond and a brackish water pond. Walking paths, nature trails and walking the beach are also great ways to see the park and its flora and fauna. Alligators are found in the park and are often out and about in places where they can readily be seen.

Bobby Simpson loves the beach, the lovely weather in South Carolina, and visiting Grand Strand state parks such as Huntington Beach SP and camping at Myrtle Beach campgrounds.

Myrtle Beach Vacations

Myrtle Beach Vacations

Author: Irvin Bell

With sixty miles of coast to offer its many visitors, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is the perfect vacation destination for your family - or a great place to get away from it all for a couple's retreat. Myrtle Beach is a sun worshipper's paradise, but there is plenty to do and lots to see when you're not lounging on the beach.

The key to an once-in-a-lifetime Myrtle Beach vacation is finding the best oceanfront hotels in myrtle beach. The busiest season for hotels and other rental properties is obviously during the warmest months of the year - from May through September. |If you are planning a Myrtle Beach resort vacation during the peak season, it is best practice to book early in order to reserve the hotel that you want - or perhaps take advantage of the many resorts.

But how do you keep the little ones entertained after a fun-filled day in the hotel pool or ocean? Here are a few ideas that are sure to please even the most discriminating junior consumers:

* There are more than 60 miniature golf parks to choose from in and around Myrtle Beach.
* Go shelling. OK, it's not really a flying saucer, but it sure looks like one. The authorities in charge of the beach renewal project have a platform just off shore that moves up and down the Grand Strand redistributing the sand to the beach. The kids will be fascinated!

* Go fly a kite! There are literally dozens of shops around town where you can buy a sturdy, colorful kite that will soar high in the sky.

If one seeks all fun with fewer expenses, there are rental homes available for everyone's tastes and budget. From spacious studio homes to small one-bedroom vacation homes, one can easily find accommodations for a romantic rendezvous for two or a reunion for a complete family in Myrtle Beach. These offers include not only the most luxurious accommodations, but also the best amenities available and all at an affordable price.

To become a member of these resorts, one has to purchase real-estate shares in the resorts. One can tailor the size of the ownership interest to fully meet one?s vacation needs, depending on duration of the stay, the size of the accommodations, the time and the destination. Timeshare owners can decide to stay at their resort during the prescribed period or they can rent out their time to others. Tourists can buy or rent timeshares in Myrtle Beach and enjoy much more than what can be offered by a stay in a hotel, at similar or better prices.

The golf season in Myrtle Beach never really ends, but winter can be hit and miss, so it?s best to get in a few rounds of golf during the fall. Fall in Myrtle Beach is the best time for golf because the weather is still pretty nice, and all of the tourists have gone home. The pre-winter Myrtle Beach golf season is a great time for east coast locals to play on the over 100 golf courses that Myrtle Beach has to offer.

Wicked Stick golf course is a little easier than some of the other Myrtle Beach golf courses. The fairways are wide open, without any obstacles or trees to get in your way. The golf slope rating is 117.

The Love Course at Barefoot Resort was designed by Davis Love III. It is a beautiful piece of property that winds through an old Myrtle Beach plantation. The Love Course's wide golf fairways and roomy landing areas make it a pleasure to play.

As always, be sure to make a golf course reservation when going down to Myrtle Beach to play.
